The Knotted Entity is an ongoing project that changes overtime, within physical space, installation and dialogue interactions. It started as a response from conversations surrounding crime in South Africa and since then has evolved into a diverse exchange within cultutral landscapes on sensitive subjects such as; harassment, emotional violence and boundaries.

Participants were invited to share something that still effected them at that time. As they spoke they would make shoelace knots which acted as a form of regulation.
The use of shoelaces came from a personal experience of the De Lacy and she uses it as a way to start the conversations. The installation piece is a compulation of video and knots collected from these interactions.

The installation changes alongside the artist, as the artist capacity to sit with vulnerable stories grows so does the conversations become more nuanced and layerd. The first collection of stories ranged from 5-10 mins and the latest collection ranged from 15-40 min sessions, some even going over an hour. The conversations themselves becomes even more nuanced and layered as the artists grows within her capacity to sit with the stories.

Viewers can create their own knots and add it to the ever growing and changing enviroment of the Knotted Entity project.
